It might be more interesting if it was a USB driver because in case of robotic applications, the varieties of tasks do not lack at all. Except that robots will like better being driven by a small 9" laptop integrated to the project's main corps.
RS 232 offers however a bipolar signal, a wider control, but one has to be restricted to the use of a desktop computer instead.
